2007 ALEXOLOGY MUSIC AWARDS!

El año se cierra, y la música vivió varios momentos memorables. Artistas nuevos surgieron, otros fueron descubiertos despues de tiempo de ser lanzados, y unos mas pudieron regresar después de tiempo sin star activos. Estas son elecciones mias, basandome en ventas, criticas, y mi propio gusto. Contará con 5 nominados y solo uno, el ke ste en primer lugar, será considerado mi favorito en la categoria. He aki mis elecciones:

ACT OF THE YEAR
* Amy Winehouse. Even if her year is coming down in the last few months (in-n-out of rehab, her husband goes to jail, concerts cancelled...), she was the talk in the music industry. BACK TO BLACK is not only an amazing album, it manage to get her a number one in native UK and a Top10 album in the US, where she's consider the revelation of the year, even thought BACK TO BLACK is her 2nd album. She also manage to score a hit on the world radio, with "Rehab", which has been covered by everybody. And with 6 Grammy nominations under her arm, 2008 will start better for the troubled lady.

SINGLE OF THE YEAR
* Robyn + Kleerup, "With Every Heartbeat". This song may be 2 years old, but this is just another example on how the Swedish are always ahead of the game in the music scene. A veteran in the music industry, Robyn recorded this track with DJ Andreas Kleerup 2 years ago as one of his singles, after Robyn released her self-titled album in 2005. The song did close to nothing on the Swedish charts, but the Brits started to import the song for club porpuse, and it became a hit. Early in 2007, Robyn released her self-titled album in the UK, and did nothing. WEH has number one written all over, even if Sweden didn't pay attention to it. The song, slowly but surely, started to climb in the UK charts and it became a hit reaching it's well deserved number one. This is what a good artist does. Falls, but shakes the dust off and continue fighting. WEH smells like a classic.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR
* Amy Winehouse, BACK TO BLACK. The whole world has praised this album, an album first released in the UK on October 06, but that took the world in 2007. It's a simple soul/blues album, but what an album! In contrast to her jazz-influenced former album, Winehouse's focus is described as "shifting to the girl groups of the Fifties and Sixties". Back to Black went to number one on the UK Albums Chart numerous times, and entered at number seven on the Billboard 200. This was the highest debut entry for an album by a British female solo artist, only to be outdone two weeks later by Joss Stone who debuted at number two with Introducing Joss Stone. This is a personal album where she explains herself, why the drinking, why the man, the drugs. This is an album to remember.

BEST VIDEO
* M.I.A., "Jimmy". Making a video for a remake of a 80's Bollywood song would be an easy test. And it was! And it came brilliantly. So much colors, the choreography, and all showing how beautiful M.I.A. is. This is a tune that was made for dance, and the video had to show that. This is what represents M.I.A. Mixing the sounds from the Middle East with the sounds of Europe. And giving it a fun touch of disco. She gave us a galactic, rather cheap, but genius music video, in a year where originality lacked of presence in the music videos.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
* Björk, VOLTA: When you said you have made a tribal album, with tons of collaborations including the producer of the moment, Timbaland, everybody expects this to be your finest album of your career. We did get the tribal sounds... in like two songs. The rest was a compilation of Björk's previous albums sounds and nothing special. Yes, it is her highest entry on the charts, but that doesn't help the album that much. And what about the promo? She did went to the regular shows, has a tour and everything, but just ONE video!? She's Björk!!! She should have wow-ed us with that at least, but didn't accomplish that. "Earth Intruders" was an animated video, nice, but no Björk-esque enough. And the single released were also abismal, with only releasing "Earth Intruders" and "Innocence" in digital format. We know she's Björk and chart success is not that important, but this album was nothing compared to Homogenic or Post. It didn't live up the hype. But let's be optimist, she'll recover... one can hope =)
